Today we made natural play clay or “play dough”. It’s so simple to make and non-toxic. The great part is that you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen! We have made “clay” many times using white unbleached flour but today we only had whole wheat and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. For a fuchsia color we added some beet juice that I had saved from juicing :). Luna put a lot of love into kneading the dough – it ended up looking amazing! I think I prefer the whole wheat clay because it had beautiful little wheat flecks in it! It does dry out quickly though!
Recipe for all-natural play clay
1 cup flour
3/8 cup salt
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
natural dye (see below)
Fushsia – 3/8 cup warm beet juice
Yellow – 3/8 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon tumeric
Orange – 3/8 cup warm water and 1 teaspoon paprika
Mix the flour and salt in a medium size bowl. Pour in the oil and your natural dye, stir well and knead. Add more flour if the clay is too sticky. You can store the clay in an airtight container in the fridge. Have fun!
Luna made Autumn leaves! We are going to let them dry and use them as Fall decor!
